HCA reveals 77 Kickstart schemes under review

The Homes and Communities Agency has been forced to place 77 Kickstart-funded schemes under review, after they failed to secure a tranche of the £390m extra funding announced by the Treasury yesterday.

Schemes including Kidbrooke regeneration in Greenwich, Countryside’s plans in Canning Town and English Cities Funds’ Rathbone Market will all be hit, after the HCA missed out on fully plugging the £610m funding gap that opened up on 24 May when the government announced £6.2bn of cuts.

Schemes now under review comprise 7,078 homes which may not be developed. To view the full list, click here.

However, 133 funding allocations under the Kickstart programme are still going ahead. Click here to see which ones.

Today, the HCA has also announced the Local Authority New Build schemes that have succeeded in securing funding. That list is here, while those that have missed out and are under review can be found here.

Chief executive Sir Bob Kerslake said: “We are pleased to have confirmation of the £390m and are working on how we can use it to maximise the impact for maintaining the supply of affordable housing and creating opportunity for communities.

“We can now firm up the position with our partners to create more certainty around schemes that have been on hold.

“It also means that we are now in a position to both meet commitments across our entire funding programme as well as providing funding for some additional affordable housing schemes.”
